Michael Carrick became Manchester United's interim manager in January, following Ruben Amorim's sacking after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. The former United midfielder took the reins at the club ahead of the Manchester derby in January, and he marked his return to the dugout with a win.
The Red Devils were victorious over their Manchester rivals, winning 2-0. One week later, United travelled to the capital and defeated the league leaders Arsenal 3-2. Those two results were huge in United's season, and they helped spearhead the club towards Champions League football, which was confirmed following a 3-2 win against Liverpool.
Carrick has helped transform Manchester United in the second half of the season, which has seen the Red Devils win 11 of their 16 games under the Amorim replacement. United will now go into the summer knowing who their manager is, ahead of a huge 2026/27 season.
Carrick will play a big part in the club's transfers this summer, with midfielders being at the top of the list in terms of priority for the side. Carrick will be hoping he can make multiple signings this summer in the area to strengthen the team that will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next campaign.
United have finished third in the Premier League this season, finishing behind Arsenal and Manchester City. The Red Devils have had all of their focus on the Premier League since January, and they have made their mark in the league, securing their best finish in three seasons.
Michael Carrick took over United with the job set to be just temporary until the end of the season, but the Red Devils have been so impressive under the 44-year-old that he was offered the job permanently.
With the World Cup taking place this summer, it will make signing players a little more difficult, due to the competition being a hindrance in the off-season for clubs across the globe. United will be hoping to accelerate with transfer negotiations quickly, to avoid any problems across the summer.
While the midfield area has been a position where the club is looking to strengthen, they will also be looking for reinforcements up and down the pitch to give them the best chance possible of lifting a trophy next campaign.
