This evening, the National League saw York City take on Carlisle United in a top-of-the-table clash. Prior to kick-off, York were in first, while Carlisle were third. Both sides were level on 56 points before the game.
If either York City or Carlisle United won tonight, then they would be guaranteed to be top of the table, but the big question was who would it be?
Carlisle United, who were at home, went into the game with the league's third-best home record, while York City went into the game with the second-best away form in the division.
Although York City were the team away from home, they started better than Carlisle United. Josh Stokes opened the scoring, just six minutes into the game. It was a positive start for the away team, who had plenty of work to do if they were to win.
At half-time, the side from the North East were leading 1-0, with the hosts having work to do in the second 45.
With 15 minutes left of the game, the second goal of the match was scored. York's Alex Hunt had doubled his team's lead, as the Minstermen were on course for a huge win on the road.
Things got even better in added time, as Alex Newby netted in the 98th minute, to put the icing on the cake for the league leaders.
York City had secured a massive 3-0 away win against Carlisle United, to keep the Minstermen top of the league. Carlisle United's defeat sees them sit fourth, as Rochdale climb to second.
