The Sky Blues have secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League after their latest win.

Coventry City had the brighter start in the match, being awarded a penalty after five minutes. An onrushing Lukas Hornicek caught Coventry's Sidiki Cherif, who won the spot-kick.

Up stepped Jack Rudoni, who sent the Newcastle United keeper the wrong way and put Frank Lampard's side in front.

The Sky Blues got off to the perfect start, but had to weather a storm from the visitors. The Magpies were pushing for an equaliser as soon as they went behind, but City's defence stood strong and kept the hosts in front.

At the break, Coventry were in front, but Newcastle were knocking on the door for an equaliser.

Lampard’s side started the better of the two in the first half, and they also started the next 45 on top. Less than four minutes into the second half, Cherif drilled low and hard from the edge of the box, doubling Coventry’s advantage.

His low shot sent through a wall of Newcastle defenders, and the outstretched Hornicek was helpless.

Matthias Jaissle’s side were not out of the contest, however, as defender Sven Botman pulled one back in the 70th minute. With the third goal in the game, the final 20 minutes were going to be nervy for either side.

Although the Magpies were growing in confidence, the home team found their third of the game and sealed three points.

Joeltinton was tackled on the edge of his own box by Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Ellis Simms' deflected strike found the back of the net.

The goals were not finished there though...

Manchester City loanee, Stephen Mfuni, danced his way around the Newcastle defence before unleashing a powerful strike low into the right-hand side of the goal, netting his side's fourth of the game.

The full-time whistle was met by cheers from the home side, who have picked up their first win of the season at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The win for the Sky Blues puts them 14th in the table, while the Magpies sit 11th.

Coventry travel away to Tottenham Hotspur next Monday, while Newcastle host Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Saturday.

For the Magpies, it is their second successive 4-1 defeat on the road, following on from their loss at Elland Road. They will be hoping to put tonight's defeat behind them at the weekend.
