Senegal have won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations 1-0, with Villarreal's Pape Gueye scoring the only goal in the game.
The match saw chaos unfold towards the end of regular time, with Senegal putting the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed due to a foul in the build-up. The referee blew his whistle prior to the ball hitting the back of the net, meaning VAR could not intervene with the decision.
Nine minutes later, Morocco were awarded a penalty, which kick-started chaos. The penalty saw players and staff of the Senegal team erupt into anger, and the Senegal players were pulled off the pitch following the decision. 16 minutes after the penalty was awarded, Real Madrid's Brahim Díaz stepped up to the penalty spot to crown Morocco champions of Africa for the first time since 1976. Díaz went for a panenka, and his penalty was saved by Édouard Mendy.
The full-time whistle was blown, meaning there would be an extra 30 minutes to decide the final.
Four minutes into extra-time, Pape Gueye burst into the box before smashing a strike into the top corner, to give Senegal the lead. Morocco now needed to find an equaliser to stand any chance of winning their first AFCON trophy since 1976.
Although Morocco were playing the tournament on home soil, they suffered defeat in the final, woth Senegal lifting the trophy for the second time in three tournaments.
Senegal have won six of their seven matches played at AFCON, which saw them crowned champions of Africa.
The end of the game will be remembered for many years to come, and Pape Gueye's strike was worthy of being a winning goal.
