Nigeria began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament with a win against Tanzania, setting the tone for their two other group stage games.

The Super Eagles then won 3-2 against Tunisia, followed by a 3-1 win against Uganda. The side were only one of two nations to win all of their three group stage games, with Algeria being the other.

A first-place finish for Nigeria in Group C set up a match against Mozambique in the Round of 16.

The major piece of action came after two minutes, with prolific striker Victor Osimhen putting the ball in the back of the net. His early goal however was disallowed due to an offside. It was a bright start by the team who had a 100% win record in the competition prior to the game.

20 minutes into the game, the first goal was scored, which stood. Atalanta's Ademola Lookman scored the opening goal in the contest, which was his third of the competition. Five minutes later, a 1-0 lead turned into a 2-0 advantage. Osimhen scored again in the game, but this time it counted. The 2023 runners-up were two to the good at half-time, looking to build on their advantage in the second half.

Less than two minutes into the second 45, Osimhen had scored his second of the game, with Lookman getting the assist.

The third goal of the match all but confirmed Nigeria's place in the quarter-finals, but the nation was not finished with scoring. Sevilla's Akor Adams, who had two assists in the game, scored his first of the tournament and Nigeria's fourth of the game.

The final score was a comfortable 4-0 win for Nigeria, who had booked their spot in the quarter-finals at full-time. Eric Chelle's team have scored 12 goals in just four matches, with both Lookman and Osimhen scoring three each. Ademola Lookman has seven goal involvements in just four matches at AFCON, showcasing his importance in front of goal for his team.

The win now sees the Super Eagles advance to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face the winner of Algeria vs D.R. Congo.
