Josh Sargent has completed a £20 million move from EFL Championship side Norwich City to Major League Soccer's Toronto FC. The 2026 MLS season is underway, and the USA international has completed a move to Canadian club Toronto FC.
The move brings Sargent's time at Norwich City to an end, with the forward spending four-and-a-half years in East Anglia. He joined the club from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen after impressing in Germany's top division.
The 26-year-old played 157 games for the Canaries and scored 56 goals. He also picked up 15 assists across his appearances for the club.
Toronto finished 12th in the Eastern Conference in the MLS last year, out of 15 teams. The Canadian side was 21 points off ninth-place Orlando City, who occupied the last play-off spot for the league's knockout cup competition.
Toronto won only one of their last 12 games of the 2025 season, which was against Orlando City in the final game of the season. In that run, they drew eight consecutive matches, with six of them finishing 1-1.
The Canadian club began their 2026 MLS campaign with an away match against FC Dallas, which Dallas won 3-2. Toronto's next match is away again, which is against Vancouver Whitecaps.
On matchday four, Toronto host New York Red Bulls, which is their first home game of 2026.
The signing of Sargent will be one viewed as a way of significantly bolstering Toronto's goals scored this year, with Theo Corbeanu being the side's top scorer in the league, netting six goals in 32 appearances.
Djordje Mihailovic scored four goals in 10 games since joining the club from Colorado Rapids, and in total, he scored 13 league goals last year.
