Sunderland have completed the signing of winger Malick Fofana from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.
Sunderland have officially announced the signing of winger Malick Fofana, who joins the Black Cats from French side Olympique Lyon.
The 21-year-old, who was heavily linked with Arsenal and Crystal Palace, has completed a move worth £30 million, including add-ons. The Belgian has signed a five-year contract with the North East outfit.
Last season, Fofana featured 12 times in Ligue 1 and scored twice. His impressive performances in France across the last campaign saw plenty of clubs register their interest in the player, and Sunderland have won the race.
There were reports that fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace were trying to hijack the transfer before it was officially completed, but their attempts did not materialise.
Reports circulated that Fofana struggled to choose between Crystal Palace and Sunderland, but he eventually decided to join the latter.
The deadline day deal sees the Black Cats strengthen their front line, ahead of their exciting Europa League journey.
The transfer will be a blow for Crystal Palace, who were hoping to get a late signing through the door on the final day of the window. But Sunderland have secured the talented winger, who could make his debut on Saturday against Brentford.
The Black Cats will then face Hull City in the Carabao Cup, before hosting Premier League champions Arsenal.
