James Rodriguez signs for MLS side Minnesota United

Experienced midfielder James Rodriguez has signed for MLS side Minnesota United. The Colombia international has penned a short-term deal with the team until Jun, but Minnesota United have an option to extend his contract until December.

Upon signing for the MLS outfit, Rodríguez said, "I'm very happy to start this chapter in my life. I hope to be at my best so I can bring joy to this city and to all the people who are putting faith in me."

He further added, "I'm looking forward to meeting all the passionate Minnesota fans because I'm also a passionate player who wants to give everything on the field and always wants to win."

It is the Colombian's sixth club since 2020, and since the year he has played for Everton, Olympiacos, Al-Rayyan and other teams. Across 2025, James Rodríguez played 34 games, scoring five and assisting nine.

The 34-year-old will be hoping to earn a spot in Colombia's World Cup squad later in the year, 12 years on from his impressive World Cup campaign in Brazil.

The experienced footballer will wear the number 10 shirt for Minnesota United, ahead of the 2026 campaign. The club finished fourth in the Western Conference, five points off San Diego who finished top of the table. Minnesota suffered defeat in the MLS play-off semi-finals against San Diego.

Across his career, James has played 638 games for club and country, scoring 158 goals and getting 202 assists. For Colombia, the midfielder has scored 31 goals in 122 games, and he is the captain of his nation.

Upon signing with the MLS club, Rodríguez is set to play for his 12th club when the 2026 season gets underway.
