Bodø/Glimt's fairytale journey in the UEFA Champions League came to an end on Tuesday, following the club's disappointing defeat against Sporting CP 5-0. The Norwegian side led 3-0 on aggregate, but were knocked out of the competition after losing 5-0 away from home.
Despite their last performance being disappointing, they have had a competition run to be proud of.
This season in the UEFA Champions League, Bodø's home stadium has proven to be a struggle for away sides, with Manchester City, Inter and Tottenham Hotspur struggling when they visited the Arctic Circle.
Teams have struggled when they have faced Bodø/Glimt at the Aspmyra Stadion, which has a capacity of 8,270. The ground is extremely unique in comparison to other grounds in the UEFA Champions League this season, with one of those being the playing surface. The stadium has an artificial pitch, due to the climate in Norway. A grass pitch would not be sustainable; therefore, the home pitch for Bodø/Glimt is artificial.
Bodø is a small town in Norway, which has a population of 55,000. The entire population of the town could fit into the San Siro stadium, and there would still be seats free.
The town is located in the Arctic Circle, which also poses its own problems for travelling teams. The temperatures opposition players have to endure are often uncomfortable for them, as they are not used to the freezing temperatures in which they have to play.
When Manchester City visited Bodø, the squad were stunned by the freezing cold temperatures, which dropped to -9 at one point in the game.
The Norwegian team is currently not playing domestic matches, with their only competitive games coming in the UEFA Champions League right now. Usually, the Eliteserien runs from March to November, and Bodø/Glimt's league season begins on 6 April, as they travel away to Kristiansund.
Do you think Bodø will be back in the UEFA Champions League next season?
