York City part ways with manager Stuart Maynard

Stuart Maynard guided York City to the National League title three months ago, winning the division on the final day and ending the 2025/26 campaign with 108 points. York City scored 114 league goals and conceded just 41 in 46 games.

The Minstermen broke plenty of records during their impressive season, and they are now ready to embark on their first season back in the Football League in 11 seasons.

York City have confirmed on social media that manager Stuart Maynard has parted ways with the club. They said, "It has not been an easy decision," and further added that a decision was made because of a "difference in direction and vision for the football club."

The news has come as a huge shock, with Maynard showcasing his brilliance in the dugout at York City. The club has played five pre-season friendlies, as their campaign kicks off in eight days.

On 3 August, the Minstermen's first competitive match of the season as a League Two club comes against Crawley Town, in the EFL Cup's preliminary round. The 2026 National League champions' first league game comes against Bristol Rovers on 15 August.

Maynard made history with the Minstermen, but the club's decision to part ways with him denies the manager the opportunity of taking charge of the team in the EFL. Now, both of the promoted teams out of the National League from last season will begin the upcoming campaign with different managers from the ones they finished the last campaign with.
