Mavropanos' impressive start to the season for club and country

Konstantinos Mavropanos has had a great start to the 2026/27 season for West Ham United and Greece.
The 28-year-old centre-back has been a key figure for West Ham and Greece this campaign, playing 15 games so far.
The former Stuttgart and Arsenal defender has been strong defensively, but he has also been a major threat in front of goal for the Hammers as well.
In just nine league appearances, the defender has scored five goals, which puts him joint-fourth in the Championship's golden boot race. He is West Ham's second-highest goalscorer in the league, just one goal behind Jarrod Bowen.
The defender kept a clean sheet during West Ham's last game against Lincoln City, and was also on the scoresheet as the Hammers won 6-0 on the road. The Greece international scored his side's first of the game, which opened the floodgates in the clash.
During the international break, Mavropanos played in all four of Greece's matches, keeping two clean sheets against Germany. His nation did not lose in any of their four games either, winning two and drawing two.
His most notable goal this season came against Millwall at The Den, as the defender scored Nuno Espírito Santo's side's equaliser to rescue a point against their biggest rivals.
In September, the centre-back registered five goal involvements in six matches for the Hammers, scoring four and assisting one.
Mavropanos will be hoping he can continue his goalscoring form this weekend against Swansea City, who are top of the league. If West Ham secure three points in Wales, then the Hammers will move one point behind their opponents.
But if Swansea secure three points, they will extend their lead at the top of the league and move seven points clear of Nuno's team, who are third right now.
