The 2026 Major League Soccer season is underway

The 2026 Major League Soccer season is underway, with 13 fixtures being played across Saturday and Sunday. The league campaign opened with St. Louis City hosting Charlotte FC at the Energizer Park. The first fixture of 2026 in the league ended 1-1. Marcel Hartel gave the hosts the lead on the hour mark, but 13 minutes later, Pep Biel brought his team level. Both sides begin this year with a point in Missouri.

Defending MLS Cup champions Inter Miami were in action away from home against LAFC. Both sides are the top two favourites to lift the MLS Cup trophy at the end of the season, with Miami being the favourites. LAFC, who finished third in the Western Conference in 2025, are tipped as the second favourites.

The game which was played at the LA Memorial Coliseum saw LAFC put on a superb show and win 3-0. Inter Miami were dismantled in California, with the team from Los Angeles producing a statement win. 20-year-old David Martinez opened the scoring in the 38th minute of the match, and LAFC did not look back from that moment. 1-0 became 2-0 in the 73rd minute, with Denis Bouanga getting his first league goal of the season, and Nathan Ordaz added his team's third.

LAFC will take the momentum from their opening day win into their next league game, which is against Houston Dynamo. Miami's next match is against rivals Orlando City away from home, and they do not play their first league game at home until matchday six.
