Sheffield Wednesday's strong start to the summer window

Sheffield Wednesday endured a traumatic season last time out, which saw the club relegated from the EFL Championship and pick up just two league wins, with one of those being on the final day.
The Owls had major financial problems last season, and ownership difficulties overshadowed their 2025/26 campaign. However, Wednesday are under new ownership and have had a great start to the summer window in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
In recent days, Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the signing of Jordi Liongola for an undisclosed fee from RAAL La Louvière in the Belgian Pro League. This is just one of their many summer signings made recently.
Max Lowe, Liam Cooper and Ricardo Santos are other names who have been confirmed as Wednesday players ahead of next season, which will be viewed with plenty of excitement by Owls fans.
Leeds United youngster Harry Gray has recently been linked with a loan move to Hillsborough, with the teenager having played in the third tier last season for Rotherham United.
Blackburn Rovers forward Yūki Ōhashi, Stevenage's Filip Marschall and Wrexham's Davis Keillor-Dunn are all being targeted by the recently relegated side, who want to win the League One title.
The Owls will be viewed as one of the favourites to gain promotion this season, but League One has proven to be difficult for teams that have recently been relegated from the EFL Championship.
Luton Town, Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic have all been relegated from the Championship in recent years and have struggled to bounce back, due to the competitiveness of the third tier.
Clubs such as Cardiff City and Birmingham City, who bounced back at the first time of asking, invested heavily in the playing squad to ensure they had the best chance of promotion. With Wednesday taking a similar approach, the Owls are putting themselves in the strongest position possible ahead of matchweek one.
Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping they do not join those other sides in failing to gain promotion back to the second tier at the first time of asking. The feel-good factor following the recent takeover has helped boost the happiness around the club, which will be taken into the first game of the upcoming season against Leyton Orient.
