Sheffield Wednesday have been relegated to League One after 33 games in the Championship. The Owls' rivals, Sheffield United, relegated the side at Bramall Lane, with the Blades winning the Steel City Derby 2-1.
Sheffield Wednesday have lost 24 of their 33 league games this season, winning only once. The Owls were given a -18 point deduction due to breaches of PSR rules, and with the club currently in administration, the challenge to stay up was always going to be difficult.
Wednesday still have 13 league games remaining of the season, but they find themselves 41 points away from West Brom, who are the closest club to the Owls who are outside of the relegation zone. The gap between Sheffield Wednesday and 23rd-place Oxford United is a staggering 36 points.
With Sheffield Wednesday's relegation to the third tier confirmed, the club can start planning for the 2026-27 season. The Owls have scored only 20 league goals in the Championship this campaign across 33 matches, and they have conceded 66. The last time Wednesday picked up a win was against Portsmouth, back in September. A five-month wait for a win continues, with their only league win coming against Pompey.
Up next for Sheffield Wednesday is an away trip to Norwich City, who have been in brilliant form recently under Philippe Clement.
