Sandro Tonali's agent breaks silence following deadline day drama involving Newcastle United's midfielder

Sandro Tonali was linked with a move away from Newcastle United to Arsenal on transfer deadline day. The former AC Milan midfielder has a contract with the Magpies until 2028, so the transfer fee would have to be high to see him depart St. James' Park.

In recent days, rumours have surfaced that Real Madrid and Manchester United are both holding interests in the midfielder, but a fee of over £100 million would be needed to tempt Newcastle United into accepting a bid.

This season, Tonali has played 37 matches for the Magpies. The last game where he did not feature in for either club or country was back in October, when he missed Newcastle's Champions League match against Benfica.

The 25-year-old has impressed this season, despite Eddie Howe's team having a disappointing campaign in the Premier League. The midfielder is yet to score this season across all competitions, but he has picked up five assists across all comps.

Following the closure of the winter transfer window, Tonali's agent has come out and said, "Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League. These transfer discussions will take place later. We'll see how the season ends and then we'll decide what to do. There's no preference at the moment. It's still early. What we're saying today won't apply tomorrow."
