Manchester United have confirmed that after 14 months with the club, Ruben Amorim has been sacked as head coach.

The Portuguese boss helped guide the club to a Europa League final last season, but the Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

United have only lost two of their last 14 matches, which puts the side sixth in the table. They are level on points with fifth-place Chelsea, and are three points behind fourth-place Liverpool.

Darren Fletcher is set to be the new interim boss of Man United until a replacement is found, with the Red Devils taking on Burnley on Wednesday.

There were reports that tension built between the United head coach and the hierarchy after Amorim's post-match comments vs Leeds United. After Man United's draw yesterday, he said: "I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not the head coach. Every department, scouting Sporting Director, they need to do their job, and I will do mine for 18 months and we'll move on."

Manchester United have previously been linked with the following managers during Amorim's reign:

Xavi (no club)

Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)

Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth)

Ruben's record at United saw him manage 63 games, winning 25, drawing 15 and losing 23. Reports circulated following the Portuguese boss' appointment that he initially wanted to join the club during the summer of 2025 and finish the 2024/25 campaign with Sporting, but Amorim made the switch to Manchester in November.

14 months on from his appointment, Man United are in the market for a new permament manager/ head coach, but who do you think they will appoint?
