Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will leave the club at the end of the season, per multiple reports. The Spaniard joined City in 2016, and his impact on the football club has been huge.
He has not just revolutionised the team, but he has changed the league as well. From style of play to tactics, almost every team has taken into account what Pep has done with City and tried to use his style in some way to benefit themselves.
Guardiola has lifted 20 trophies during his time at City, which has included:
6 Premier Leagues
5 EFL Cups
3 FA Cups
3 FA Community Shields
1 FIFA Club World Cup
1 UEFA Champions League
1 UEFA Super Cup
Pep's impact on English football and world football has been incredible to see, but now, someone will have to step up and replace him at City. That man is believed to be Enzo Maresca, who was Guardiola's assistant during City's treble-winning season.
Guardiola has been at City for the last 10 years, but he has decided to end his chapter with the Manchester club. It has been a hugely successful time at City, and there have been reports of a stand being named after him.
The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager has frequently said that he will be City's manager next season, but those comments are now false, as Pep departs from the club this summer. The news of his departure first broke during Arsenal's 1-0 win against Burnley, and the leak left Guardiola unhappy according to reports, as he did not want his side to be unsettled before their clash against Bournemouth.
Maresca has been all but confirmed to replace Pep at City, and the challenge to replicate what the Spaniard did with the club will be extremely difficult. The Italian departed from Chelsea at the start of the year, following a poor run of form. However, in the summer, Maresca's Chelsea lifted the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, defeating PSG 3-0 in the final.
City's squad is in a great place right now, and they have been in brilliant form since the turn of the year. In 2026, they lifted the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, against Arsenal and Chelsea, respectively.
But this campaign is the end of an era for City, and it is going to be a huge summer ahead of a big campaign. A change in the dugout for Manchester City will take some time getting used to, and questions will be asked whether the Cityzens can replicate what they did under Guardiola with Maresca, and if they can challenge for success straight away.
