Morecambe FC were on the verge of liquidation in the summer due to ownership struggles which put the club's 105-year history at risk of dissolution. Players and staff went weeks without receiving pay, and despite the EFL approving a takeover for the club, Bond Group Investments was delaying the deal, putting the Shrimps' future in jeopardy.
Panjab Warriors eventually agreed a deal with Jason Whittingham (Bond Group Investments) to become the owners of the football club, as the new ownership group had a huge challenge ahead of themselves to rebuild the team.
Fans were happy that their football club was saved and that they had a team to watch this season, which seemed extremely unlikely at one point.
In the summer, a whole revamp of the playing squad was made, along with a managerial change.
Morecambe FC kick-started their league season in a fairytale manner, winning their first game of the campaign in the 95th minute. An upbeat Mazuma Stadium before kick-off was even more electric at full-time, following an emphatic ending to their first match of the 2025/26 season.
After their opening day win, the Shrimps failed to win one of their following 14 games across all competitions, highlighting how the season was going to be difficult for the Northwest club.
Since October, Morecambe have won only four matches, playing 16. However, the Shrimps have picked up back-to-back wins in their last two outings, beating Gateshead in the FA Trophy and Brackley Town in the National League.
Morecambe are currently sat 21st in the National League, level on points with Brackley Town, who are outside of the dropzone. A -8 worse goal difference sees the Northwest club sit below Brackley in the table.
Do you think the Shrimps will avoid relegation this season?
