Middlesbrough are currently top of the EFL Championship with 61 points. They are two points clear of second-place Coventry City, and are seven points ahead of third-place Ipswich Town.
Boro have won all of their last six in the league, which has helped propel the team to the top of the league. They are facing second-place Coventry City in their next league game, which is being played this Monday.
The summer transfer window underlined the club’s ambition, with significant investment in key areas to add both quality and depth. Rav van den Berg’s arrival from Köln for a big fee strengthened the defence, signalling a commitment to building from the back with a composed ball‑playing centre‑half. In midfield and attack, the addition of creative players such as Finn Azaz brought extra quality between the lines, giving Middlesbrough more options to unlock deep defences and vary their attacking patterns.
Although they have been impressive in the league, their cup competition performances have been more low‑key, with an early exit in the EFL Cup and a brief run in the FA Cup that never quite built momentum. That has, however, allowed the squad to focus energy on the league, maintaining fitness and consistency during a congested winter schedule. As the season moves into its decisive months, Middlesbrough find themselves well placed in the table and have a strong distance between themselves and third.
While winning the league would be a great achievement, gaining automatic promotion to the Premier League is the North East side's top priority, going into the second half of the season.
Morgwn Whittaker is the club's leading top goalscorer in the league, netting 11 goals in 30 games. Tommy Conway is second, with seven goals.
Do you think Middlesbrough will gain promotion to the Premier League this season?
