Ethan McLeod was a 21-year-old footballer for Macclesfield FC. On his way back from the Silkmen's 2-1 win against Bedford Town, the Wolves academy graduate sadly lost his life in a car accident.
The footballing world was stunned by the news, with football clubs, players and other members of the football community coming together to show their support for McLeod's family and friends.
This afternoon, Macclesfield confirmed that they had retired the number 20 shirt in memory of Ethan.
The 21-year-old scored two goals for Macclesfield this season, after joining the club from Stourbridge. Macclesfield's match last weekend was postponed due to Ethan's passing, but their Boxing Day match vs Buxton is set to go ahead.
