Lisandro Martínez has played 10 matches for Manchester United this season, after returning from an ACL injury he picked up last season.
The Argentinian defender has had a tricky couple of seasons when it comes to injury, as he broke his foot and picked up a knee injury, in the season prior to his ACL injury.
Over the last two campaigns, Licha has been sidelined for 78 matches due to injury, which has hampered his playing minutes.
Via @AFAestudio on X, Martínez said: "After the first two or three weeks after my ACL injury, I didn't want to play football anymore. I had already gone through the foot injury, now the knee one too, and I said, 'that's it, I don't want to know anything anymore.'"
Despite the mentally challenging period of Licha’s career, he shown resilience to bounce back and recover, where he is now back playing for Manchester United.
Since his return from injury, he has played 10 matches, where he has picked up 534 minutes of game time. In his last three appearances, the 27-year-old has played 90 full minutes, as he picks up his sharpness and returns to form.
The centre-back will be hoping that he is a part of Argentina’s World Cup squad for the upcoming summer tournament in 2026, as the nation looks to defend their World Cup title.
Manchester United’s defender was a part of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup back in 2022 in Qatar.
Do you think Lisandro Martínez will play at the World Cup for Argentina?
