Lincoln City travelled to Reading on Monday, with the Imps hoping to book promotion to the Championship that afternoon. Lincoln, who went into the game off the back of 23 matches unbeaten, were looking to add another game to the run and secure promotion to the second tier.

Just one point was enough for the Imps to guarantee promotion, with the side being 18 points ahead of third-place prior to Monday's games. The first goal at the Select Car Leasing Stadium was scored by the League One leaders, just five minutes into the game. Ryan Oné, who is on loan from Sheffield United, scored his fifth goal for the Imps on his 12th appearance.

Reading are chasing a play-off spot, and avoiding defeat at home would further strengthen their top-six push. In the 92nd minute, Lewis Wing scored a spectacular free-kick from range, which seemed like it had rescued the hosts a point.

A single point would have seen Lincoln City guaranteed promotion, but they wanted to go up in style, and they did. The away team, in the 96th minute, found the winning goal in the game courtesy of Jack Moylan, who had booked Lincoln City's spot in the Championship for next season with his late goal.

The full-time whistle saw jubilant scenes on the pitch and in the away end, as Lincoln City players, staff and supporters had won promotion to the second tier. With five matches left of the League One regular season, the Imps will be looking to secure the league title in those matches. Even though they have a 12-point gap to second, they will want a trophy to go alongside their promotion. But for now, it is party time at the LNER Stadium.

Lincoln City have had an outstanding 25-26 campaign in League One, and here are some standout starts from their season to date:

  • Best home record

  • Best away record

  • Top goalscorers

  • Fewest goals conceded

  • 24 matches unbeaten right now

Across the Imps' last 15 matches, they have picked up 13 wins. Nine clean sheets have been picked up in those 15 games, which showcases their strong defence. The team's top goalscorers in League One are Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Moylan, who have both netted nine goals each.

The recently promoted team's last five matches see them face:

  • Leyton Orient (H)

  • Stevenage (A)

  • Doncaster Rovers (A)

  • Wycombe Wanderers (H)

  • Port Vale (A)

How many points will Lincoln City finish on this season?
