James Tavernier will leave Rangers at the end of the season

James Tavernier has confirmed he will leave Rangers at the end of the current campaign, following 11 seasons with the club. The defender has lifted five trophies with Rangers since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2015.

The club captain, aged 34, has confirmed he will leave Ibrox as a free agent in the summer. His final game for the team will be against Falkirk away. His final home game will be against Hibernian on 13 May.

To date, the full-back has played 562 times for Rangers, scoring an impressive 144 goals. He has also picked up 148 assists across those games, and he has been an important figure to the squad since joining over a decade ago.

On Monday, the defender said he was yet to be offered a new contract with the Glasgow side, and two days later, he confirmed on Instagram that he would be departing this summer. Tavernier has said, "It hasn't been an easy decision" on leaving the Scottish giants this window, but his decision has been made, and he will be available on a free transfer in the coming months.

Tavernier also said, "This club has been a huge part of my life and my family's over the past 11 years."

He further added: "To have had the honour of being made captain of this club since 2018 is something I will always be incredibly proud of. Leading this team out, wearing the armband and being trusted in that role has meant more to me than I can properly put into words."

The veteran defender will be hoping that he can lift the Scottish Premiership title for just the second time at Rangers this season, with the Gers just one point behind leaders Hearts.
