Liam Manning took charge of his first Huddersfield Town match this afternoon, following Lee Grant's sacking earlier this week. Town suffered a 3-1 loss against Burton Albion, which brought an end to Grant's tenure as Terriers boss.
During the week, Liam Manning was announced as the club's new manager, and he took charge of his game this afternoon at home in a huge Derby clash vs promoted side Bradford City.
Bradford City sat third before the game, six points away from second-place Lincoln City, while Huddersfield Town were seventh, seven points away from Bradford.
The Bantams were looking to close the gap to Lincoln with a win today, but the hosts were looking to kickstart the Manning era with a win.
It was a bright start from Huddersfield Town, who opened the scoring less than 25 minutes into the match. Marcus Harness scored in the 23rd minute, netting his second league goal of the campaign.
The new manager bounce for the hosts was visible in the first 45, with Huddersfield having 62% possession and having 10 shots, in comparison to Bradford City, who only had one shot in the first half. Huddersfield Town were in front 1-0 at the break, after putting on a strong display in the West Yorkshire Derby at the interval.
Graham Alexander made a triple change at the break following a poor first half from his side, who were chasing the game. The away team were given a huge confidence boost as Huddersfield's Marcus McGuane, who was once on the books at Arsenal and Barcelona, received a second yellow card and was sent off.
The final half an hour was set up to be an exciting end, with the bantams searching for an equaliser against a side with 10-men.
As much as Bradford City searched for an equaliser, they could not find a goal, and Huddersfield held on to the three points. The Terriers are guaranteed to be in the play-offs come the end of today's League One action. It is the first time in five games that the home side has picked up a win, as they look to move up the league table in the second half of the campaign.
Brasford City have suffered two losses in a row, against opposition sides who are in the top six. Next up for Alexander's side is a tough away fixture against Lincoln City, who are second in the table.
Huddersfield Town play at home again in midweek against Luton Town, as Manning looks to win his first two opening games in charge of the club.
