Edin Džeko signs for Schalke 04 from Fiorentina

Edin Džeko has completed a move from Serie A's Fiorentina to Bundesliga 2 side Schalke 04. The 39-year-old joins on a free transfer, playing for a club in Germany for the first time since leaving Wolfsburg back in 2011. 15 years later, he will play again for a German team, but this time, it is for a club in the second division.

During Džeko's time at Wolfsburg, he scored 85 goals and assisted 35 in 142 appearances across all competitions. In total, he picked up 120 goal involvements in 142 appearances, which earned him a move to Premier League side Manchester City.

Across the forward's career, he has played for eight teams, not including Schalke. In 856 club games, he has netted 371 goals and has set up 153. He scored the most goals in his career for Italian side AS Roma, netting 119 goals in 260 games.

This campaign, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international has scored two goals this campaign, with both of them coming in the UEFA Conference League. He played 11 league games for Fiorentina this season, failing to score in any of the matches.

Schalke 04 are currently top of the second-tier in Germany, with a four-point lead over second-place SV Elversberg. Miron Muslić's team have won 12 of their 18 league games so far this campaign, facing fifth-place Kaiserslautern in their next match.

Schalke are targeting a return to the Bundesliga this campaign, where they have not played since the 2022/23 season. The Royal Blues have picked up 10 points from their last five matches in the league, which sees them have the second-best form in the division, behind Magdeburg.
