Edin Džeko's excellent start to life with Schalke 04 in Germany's second-tier

Edin Džeko signed for Schalke 04 during the January transfer window, completing a move to the German side from Fiorentina. The experienced striker has played eight games, and he has scored six goals since joining the Bundesliga 2 team.

The Bosnian forward failed to score a league goal this seaosn for Fiorentina across 11 appearances, but he has found his goalscoring form since returning to Germany.

He netted on his debut against Kaiserslautern, during Schalke's 2-2 draw with the side. His goal came in the 87th-minute, and it was his team's first goal of the game, as they scored the equalising goal three minutes later, in the 90th-minute.

After his first five appearances for Schalke, he had scored four goals and had three assists, helping his team take a stride towards promotion to the Bundesliga. The Royal Blues are currently top of the Bundesliga 2 by one point, with Elversberg closely behind on 51 points. Just three points separate the top five in the division.

Schalke have only lost three league matches since 20 September, and they are seven matches unbeaten. Their second match back from the international break is against Elversberg, who are currently second in the league table.

Džeko missed Schlake's 2-2 draw against Hannover, due ot him receiving a straight red card in the match prior. Hannover scored in the 82nd and 98th minute to rescue a point against the league leaders. Had the Royal Blues won the game, they would have been top by three points.

Džeko's return will be welcomed, as he has clearly been impactful on the team, even though he has been with the club for less than three months. Do you think he will help Schalke gain promotion to the Bundesliga this season?
