Danny Welbeck has had a brilliant 2025-26 season for Brighton, but he has not had a look-in for an England call-up this campaign. The experienced striker has scored 12 league goals in 30 appearances, scoring a brace last time out for the Seagulls, against Liverpool.

The 35-year-old leads the goalscoring charts for English players in the Premier League this season, but he has not received an international call-up during Thomas Tuchel's reign, despite the striker's super form.

Although Welbeck is reaching the latter stages of his career, this campaign is currently his best in terms of goals in the league, beating last season's total of 10. The forward has triggered a contract extension, which will see him contracted to the club until the end of the 2027 season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who received an England call-up, has scored 10 league goals this campaign, but he has not scored in his last six for Leeds United. Calvert-Lewin had a great run of form towards the end of last year, but since 2026 began, he has only scored twice.

If Welbeck has a strong remainder of the season, he could force his way into England's World Cup squad for the upcoming tournament. The 35-year-old last represented the Three Lions back in 2018, as he played for England against Switzerland. During his international career, the former Manchester United and Arsenal attacker has 42 caps for his country, scoring 16 goals.

Do you think Welbeck deserves to be in England's World Cup squad this summer?
