Chelsea reach agreement with Aston Villa to sign Morgan Rogers for £117m

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Morgan Rogers for a record fee for a British player. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the fee is £117m.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with Arsenal over recent weeks, but the blue side of London has swooped in and is seemingly set to complete the deal.

Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, has reportedly played a huge part in the transfer to sign Rogers, who has been at Villa Park since 2024.

The England international picked up 25 goal involvements for Villa across all competitions last season, making him a crucial player in Unai Emery’s side as they finished fourth in the league.

Rogers is set to sign a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, plus an option for a further year. The coup would be a statement signing from the Blues, who are strengthening an already brilliant front line.

Chelsea are not shy when it comes to splashing the cash, having spent over £200m on Enzo Fernández and Moises Caicedo previously. Mykhailo Mudryk was signed for a fee of around £80m, and so was Wesley Fofana.

This summer, Chelsea have sold numerous players to raise funds, and more outgoings are expected to help further balance the books.

Alonso is stamping his footprint on the Chelsea squad, with wide reports stating that the Spaniard will have a big say in transfers both in and out of the club. With Rogres coming in, it is a statement signing that shows the league that Chelsea are not messing around.

Maxence Lacroix has been linked with a switch from Selhurst Park to Stamford Bridge this window as well, as Chelsea look to strengthen in defence. The reduced fixture list this season will give the Blues a better chance of climbing back into the UEFA Champions League spots and getting back to competing where they once did.
