Per @SullyTalkz on X, Aston Villa have opened talks with James Trafford's representatives. The goalkeeper has been seen as City's number two since Gianluigi Donnarumma signed, which has led to Trafford being frustrated with his game time.
Newcastle United are reportedly interested in the goalkeeper, but his wage demands have been a stumbling block for the North East side. Despite this, the Magpies remain interested in the 23-year-old and hope to strike a deal for the former Burnley keeper.
Tottenham Hotspur, who have had a difficult season, are another side that holds an interest in City's goalkeeper. Last season's Europa League winners have struggled all over the pitch, and they are currently looking at James Trafford as a potential addition in goal.
The second-choice goalkeeper is reportedly set to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, but his next club is yet to be determined. Trafford would have thought that he signed for City to be the club's first-choice goalkeeper, but the arrival of Donnarumma changed those plans.
Across the 2025/26 season, James Trafford has made 15 appearances for City, but only three have been in the Premier League. One appearance was in the UEFA Champions League, five were in the FA Cup, and six were in the EFL Cup.
Less than one year ago, Trafford completed a £27 million move from Burnley to Manchester City, and one season on, he is set to move again.
With a few football clubs holding an interest in the keeper, he will not be short of offers ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. However, the 23-year-old will no doubt be searching for first-team football after a disappointing campaign, which has seen him sit on the bench for the majority of it.
Who do you think should sign James Trafford this summer if he does decide to leave Manchester City in search of first-team football?
