Are Aston Villa really in the Premier League title race?

Aston Villa currently sit third in the league table, level on points with second-place Manchester City, and are six points behind league leaders Arsenal. The Villains have won 17 of their last 21 matches across all competitions, which puts them third in the table, eight points clear of fourth-place Liverpool.

Morgan Rogers has stood out for Aston Villa this season, scoring seven and assisting four in the league. He scored a spectacular brace against Manchester United at Villa Park, as his side won 2-1. Ollie Watkins has scored seven goals in the league as well, but has only picked up one assist, three less than Rogers.

In the Europa League, Villa are also third but are level on points with second and first.

While lots of people have questioned if Aston Villa’s form will change, they do not show any signs of slowing down. Their impeccable league form has propelled them up the table. And they look like a completely different side to the one from the first six games of the campaign.

An 11-game win streak also saw Villa send shockwaves through the league and across Europe, by putting together constant wins and making statement victories. Their run was brought to an end at the Emirates Stadium, as the Gunners won 4-1.

Villa were winless in their first six games in all competitions, but their Europa League win at home vs Bologna turned a corner in their form.

Everton at home is Emery’s side’s next game, which is then followed by Fenerbahce away in the Europa League.

Aston Villa are well in the title race and if they maintain their strong form, then they will be extremely close to first place on matchday 38.

They will also be targeting the FA Cup and Europa League as pieces of silverware that they can lift this year, hoping to win their first major trophy since 1996.
