Antony joined La Liga side Real Betis last season in January on loan from Manchester United until the end of the 2024/25 campaign. The out-of-favour winger left Old Trafford for the remainder of the season, and he changed his form around during his spell in Spain.
Antony played 14 matches for United in the first half of the season, scoring once and failing to assist. When he completed his loan move to Real Betis, his form took a turn, scoring nine goals and assisting five in 26 appearances. In the league, the 25-year-old was key in the side's sixth-place finish and helped the club reach the Conference League final. The Spanish side suffered defeat in the final against Chelsea, but the campaign was one to be proud of for the club.
During the summer, Antony was set to depart Old Trafford, and even though he had interest from plenty of clubs, he had his eyes set on one club and one club only.
Real Betis completed the signing of the Brazilian winger permanently during the summer transfer window for £21.65 million, in what was a great coup for Los Verdiblancos.
This season, Antony has netted 10 goals and assisted nine, in 29 games. He has notably scored against Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, with both goals coming in the league. In the Europa League, he has seven goal involvements in his six appearances in the competition.
Betis have lost four games in the league since Antony joined permanently, with those defeats being against Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Deportivo Alaves.
The winger has clearly rejuvenated his career since switching to Spain after a disappointing stint at Manchester United. Although the move was huge for Antony to join the Premier League, it was an unsuccessful move, which saw him move to Real Betis. Since wearing the green and white of the Spanish club, Antony has been brilliant and has played a crucial role in the side.
Both Antony and Real Betis have complemented each other extremely well since January 2025, and they have both been important to how one another have grown and progressed over the past year.
How many goals do you think Antony will score this season for the La Liga club in all competitions?
