Liverpool's £125 million signing from Newcastle United is set to return to training today. The Swedish striker has scored three goals since joining the Reds in the summer, across 16 appearances. Isak's last touch of a football in a match was his goal against Tottenham Hotspur, before he broke his leg.
Micky van de Ven's late tackle on the forward saw Isak suffer a broken leg and a broken ankle. The 26-year-old has been out of action since 20 December, being subbed off during Liverpool's 2-1 win vs Spurs.
Arne Slot has confirmed that he expects the forward to play again this season for Liverpool, but he will return to match action later on in the season. However, he will join training tomorrow with the Reds, as he continues his road to recovery.
Liverpool take on Manchester City this weekend in the FA Cup, with the clash taking place at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds have hit a bump in the road recently, winning just two of their last six matches. Their last Premier League outing saw them suffer a 2-1 loss on the South Coast against Brighton.
Arne Slot's side are currently fifth in the Premier League table, and are five points off fourth spot. The Reds have had a disappointing season to date, and they have failed to defend their title from last season. This league season alone, they have lost 10 matches, out of their 31 played. Last campaign, they only lost four in the Premier League.
