York City clinched promotion back to the Football League on Saturday, as the Minstermen drew with second-place Rochdale in the 103rd-minute, which sealed promotion.

The Minstermen went 1-0 down in the 96th-minute and were looking likely to finish second and miss out on automatic promotion, but a goalmouth scramble saw Josh Stones score in the 103rd-minute, to send the side up to League Two.

York City won 33 of their 46 league matches on their way to being crowned champions, and they only suffered four league defeats across the campaign. They had the joint-best defence with Rochdale, as both sides only conceded 41 goals in 46 games. York City's Harrison Male won the Golden Glove award, keeping 19 clean sheets.

In front of goal, York City were the strongest team in terms of scoring goals, netting 114. They scored 19 more goals than Boreham Wood, who were the second-highest scorers in the division across the 25-26 campaign.

Ollie Pearce was the division's top goalscorer, netting an impressive 34 goals in 46 games. Josh Stones was the Minstermen's second-highest goalscorer in the league season, netting 18 in 40.

Now, York will prepare for their first season in the Football League in 10 years. Their last season in the EFL was during the 2015-16 campaign, when they finished bottom of the table.

Across the last two seasons, York City have been extremely impressive in the fifth-tier, picking up 204 points across their 92 games played. They missed out on promotion last season after being defeated in the play-offs, but this year, they have secured promotion automatically.

While the League Two season is yet to be completed, the Minstermen will be eyeing up potential opponents for next season. They will also be keeping an eye on the National League play-offs to see who will join them in the fourth tier.
