Ruben Amorim's Manchester United hosted Newcastle United this evening, with the clash being the only Premier League match on Boxing Day.

The Red Devils started the match with a back four, which was one standout difference for the hosts as the game began.

Bryan Mbeumo and Amad, who often play in the right wing areas for Manchester United, are absentees for the club due to the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Patrick Dorgu, who was playing right wing this evening, broke the deadlock with a sweetly struck volley from inside the box. The hosts took the lead and Amorim's formation change seemed to be working.

The score at the break was 1-0 to the hosts, who have never lost a Premier League match at Old Trafford when leading at half-time.

The second 45 got underway and Eddie Howe's side controlled possession and created multiple opportunities, which included a near miss from Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall rattling the crossbar.

There was also a VAR check for a penalty for Newcastle, but the check was not taken further.

Ayden Heaven was one standout performer for Manchester United tonight, with the centre-back winning the Player of the Match award.

The full-time score was Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United.

Amorim's side are now up to fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-place Chelsea, but the Blues have played one game less.

The Magpies remain 11th in the table, missing out on the opportunity to go level on points with the Red Devils tonight had they won.

Where do you think both sides will finish in the league this season?
