York City's Josh Stones has scored seven goals and registered four assists in 22 league games this season, helping his side sit second in the National League.

York City have not lost a league match in three months, with their last defeat coming against Scunthorpe United on October 1st.

In the league, York's top goalscorer is Ollie Pearce, who has scored 21 goals so far this campaign. He leads the golden boot race by seven goals. Alex Newby is the club's second-highest goalscorer in the league with eight goals, followed by Josh Stones, who has seven.

Stones joined York from Wigan in January 2025, completing a £350,000 move. The 22-year-old was on loan at Oldham Athletic at the start of last season, but City completed a permanent move for the forward.

The former Wigan player scored 14 league goals in 2025 for York City, which has led to interest from a plethora of clubs.

Some of the clubs interested in the attacker play in the EFL, while some play in the Scottish Premiership, according to @sportspeteO on X.

While there is interest in the York City attacker, the non-league club would want to make a profit first if they let him leave, which they more than likely would do if he was to depart the York Community Stadium. Secondly, with Stones' contract valid until 2028, the club will be in no rush to move the player on, as his contract is not expiring for another two-and-a-half years.

While there is no end to the non-league transfer window, clubs in the EFL and Scottish Premiership now have until January 31st to complete a move for the 22-year-old, if clubs are ready to pursue their interest.

Do you think Josh Stones will still be a York City player at the end of January?
