Nick Powell opens up on close retirement call in January

Bradford City midfielder Nick Powell scored twice as the Bantams won 2-1 against Newcastle United's U21s in the EFL Trophy.
The 32-year-old has had an injury-hampered career, which has affected him from his early days all the way up to today.
The midfielder scored a brace for Bradford City in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, and during his post-match interview, he opened up about his struggles with injury and how he nearly retired in January.
Speaking to BBC West Yorkshire, he said:
"I was going to retire in January. It was a dark time for me, I couldn't see a future here [at Bradford City].
"It was one of them where 'Did I really want to carry on?' The fact I knuckled down and earned a contract, I want more years of that."
Powell returned from injury in April and has been fit since. This season, he has played in every game for the Bantams, as either a starter or off the bench.
Across all competitions, the midfielder has scored four goals in 11 appearances, and has helped Bradford City sit top of the League One table after seven games.
The Bantams are unbeaten in their last five, and have won all of those games, giving them great momentum going into next Saturday's clash with Reading.
