Manchester United have announced that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new five-year contract with the club. The Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League, and they have been brilliant under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Since Carrick took the job on an interim basis, the Red Devils have been brilliant, and in particular, Kobbie Mainoo. The. English midfielder seemed to be out of the picture under former boss Ruben Amorim, but Michael Carrick has put his faith in the midfielder, and Mainoo has been excellent. The 21-year-old has become an important player in the middle of the park for the Red Devils since Carrick took over, and Mainoo has deservedly won himself a new contract.

In January, reports circulated that Mainoo handed in a loan request to gain first-team minutes, as he was not getting them with United under Amorim. But with the Portuguese being sacked in early January, Mainoo's minutes have risen since then.

The English midfielder represented his nation during the last international break, and he will be hoping to be a part of England's squad for the upcoming World Cup.

This season, Kobbie Mainoo has played 26 games for Manchester United, with 24 of those in the Premier League. While Mainoo's minutes both this season and last season under Ruben Amorim were limited, Michael Carrick has seen the midfielder as a crucial player in his tactics. United's form has been extremely positive since Carrick took to the dugout, and Kobbie Mainoo has been a key player in the success on the pitch.

The midfielder seemed a huge doubt at Christmas to be a part of England's World Cup squad for the summer,r but right now, he seems like a player who is almost guaranteed to be on the plane to the USA.

The 21-year-old's new contract sees him earn a huge pay rise, with rumours of his new weekly wage being around £125,000-a-week. It is a huge jump up from his old contract, which was £20,000-a-week.

It highlights how important Mainoo is to Manchester United right now and in the future, with the club desperate to tie down the midfielder on a longer contract. The Red Devils have done so, with his new five-year deal.
