Bradford City win League One Yorkshire clash against Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday hosted Bradford City last night in League One, with both sides going into the game hoping to end the night top of the table.

Both the Owls and the Bantams won their opening matches of the league season, 2-1 and 2-0, respectively.

A single point last night would see Sheffield Wednesday surpass their final points tally for last season, as they ended the campaign on 0 points. Bradford City were hoping to move to the top of the table and further solidify their spot as a top side in League One.

Sheffield Wednesday started the game the better, dominating possession and creating numerous chances.

The relegated side were growing in confidence, and it felt like they were bound to score first.

Despite the hosts' constant pressure on Bradford City's goal, the Bantams held their ground and dealt well with Wednesday's onslaught.

The Owls failed to capitalise on their chances and went into the break level.

In the second half, Graham Alexander's side came flying out of the blocks and had the dream start.

A well-delivered cross from Ibou Touray found its way to Aden Baldwin,

who volleyed the ball into the roof of the net, putting his side in the lead.

All of the pressure turned to Sheffield Wednesday, who were now on the back foot...

Despite the Owls pushing for the remainder of the game, the visitors stood their ground and were brilliant defensively, holding out for three points.

The win puts the Bantams top of the league, winning both of their opening two matches. Graham Alexander's side have also kept two clean sheets, starting their season strongly across the pitch.

Attention now turns to cup action for both sides...

Wednesday are at home on Tuesday, as they host EFL Championship side Wolves in the second round of the EFL Cup. Bradford City will also host a Championship team in the EFL Cup, taking on Burnley on Wednesday.
