West Ham United are top of the Championship following their 3-2 win against Bolton Wanderers.

The Hammers travelled to the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday, hoping to pick up three points in their push for promotion.

The Wanderers were hoping to bounce back from a 4-0 loss against Millwall on Saturday, and win their first game since the opening weekend of the Championship season.

Jarrod Bowen fired Nuno Espírito Santo's side in front 13 minutes into the game, after coolly converting from close range. But five minutes later, the hosts were back on level terms.

Ethan Erhahon's shot on goal took a big deflection off Konstantinos Mavropanos and found the back of the net. But things got even better for the hosts less than 10 minutes later.

Kyle Walker-Peters committed a foul inside the box, awarding Bolton a penalty. Reuben Rodrigues stepped up and converted past Mads Hermansen, who dived the wrong way.

Although the Hammers went into the clash as favourites, they found themselves 2-1 down after 27 minutes.

The Hammers were not behind for long though, as Mavropanos levelled the scoreline for the away side. A superb cross from Arne Engels found the Greek defender unmarked at the back post, who headed past Gavin Bazunu.

At half-time, four goals were scored, and the scoreline was 2-2, in a match that was proving to be an exciting clash.

In the 77th minute, time was running out for either side to find a winner. But West Ham's star man, Jarrod Bowen, found the winning goal.

A brilliant through ball from Joel Veltman found the Englishman, who saw his left-footed strike sneak below Bazunu, who could not keep the shot out.

In the 88th minute, Bowen had the chance to score his third of the game and secure all three points, but his shot from inside the box was well saved.

But West Ham had the winner, and three points were secured. The result sent them to the top of the table at full-time, but depending on Wednesday's results, they could drop in the league. Three wins in their last three see the Hammers gain momentum ahead of their next fixture, which is on Friday against Wrexham.
