The 2026/27 season is well underway, but numerous big stars are without a club.

The futures of five free agents remain up in the air, with the 26/27 campaign in full swing. Here are some of the biggest stars in the game who are without a club at the moment.

Dani Carvajal:

The right-back left Real Madrid in the summer, after playing there since returning from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013. The defender has recently been linked with a move to Getafe, but a transfer has been put on hold.

Across his career with teh Madridistas, Carvajal totalled 451 appearances in all competitions, writing his name in Real Madrid history.

The Spaniard has had an illustrious career so far, and will be hoping to play many more games this season and in the coming years. But right now, it is unknown where his future lies.

Paul Pogba:

Pogba joined AS Monaco in 2025, but has struggled with injuries since signing. Across his spell with the side, he featured just six times.

He and Monaco decided to mutually terminate his contract at the start of the season, allowing him to sign for a new club. But as of now, he is yet to complete a move to a new team.

The 33-year-old will be hoping to overcome his injury problems and get back to shining on the football pitch, whoever that may be for.

Jadon Sancho:

The English winger had a tough time at Manchester United after joining from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million. He was sent on loan to Chelsea and Aston Villa to increase his game time, before leaving the Red Devils on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old is yet to sign for anyone, despite having offers from across Europe and in Saudi Arabia.

Sancho will be hoping to hit the same heights again that he achieved in Germany, scoring 53 and assisting 67 in 158 games for Dortmund.

Karim Benzema:

Benzema won the Men's Ballon d'Or in 2022, before leaving to join Al-Ittihad in 2023. After two and a half years at Al-Ittihad, scoring 54 goals in 83 games, the Frenchman joined Al-Hilal.

The move saw the former Real Madrid striker play only 16 games in six months, scoring 10 and assisting five. The 38-year-old is now a free agent after being released from the Saudi giants.

Riyad Mahrez:

Like Benzema, Mahrez also left the Saudi Pro League in the summer. After joining from Manchester City in 2023, the Algerian went on to make 122 appearances, scoring 37 and assisting 50.

He played an important role in helping Al-Ahli win back-to-back AFC Champions League titles during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.

The 35-year-old played at the FIFA World Cup in the summer for Algeria, scoring two goals in four appearances. But after the competition, the winger ha sfailed to secure a move to a new club.
